For years, we’ve been committed to providing mercury free material to steel mills to significantly reduce mercury released during the processing of scrap into new steel products. To meet our mercury free objective, we accept only mercury free scrap from our suppliers.
To help our suppliers with the process of removing and disposing of mercury switches, we offer a collection depot at our facility for switches removed by suppliers from the scrap that we purchase. And, the best news is that we reward our suppliers for their efforts by offering a bounty of $1.50 per switch.
All General Scrap Partnership facilities will:
ONLY offer bounty for:
- 1-gram mercury switches from vehicles and appliances, and
- 2-gram ABS mercury switches from vehicles.
NOT offer any bounty for:
- Household thermostat mercury switches,
- equipment mercury switches,
- industrial mercury switches,
- mercury-containing level switches, and
- bulk liquid mercury.
The bounty for the 1-gram vehicle mercury switches is $1.50 per switch.
The bounty for the 2-gram vehicle ABS switches is $3.00 per switch.
General Scrap Partnership facilities must not accept and must reject any mercury-containing scrap.
